Learning packs in the event of school closure

Dear Parents/Carers,

During what is a very uncertain and no doubt concerning times for all of us, I want you to please be assured we as a school are kept up to date daily with advice from Carmarthenshire County Council regarding the Cornovirus (COVID-19) and regularly look at the updated advice from Public Health Wales. We have taken a large number of steps to ensure the safety of our pupils in school and thank you so far for working with us on this.

In the likely event of school closures in the near future, we would like to reassure all of our parents and carers that steps have been put into place and staff have worked extremely hard to ensure that the children can continue to learn at home in the event of school closure.

Staff have created online platforms as well as hard copy packs of work for children to complete at home for those without access to internet and a device. Staff would be available at different points throughout the days to feedback to pupils, add new activities and answer questions pupils may have about the work. During this week in school, staff have and will continue showing the children how to access their work using the various online platforms. We have also sent exercise books home with the pupils with all the required log in details to the different platforms.

In the event we do close, we ask for the full support from our parents /carers, which I know you will give, in helping your child to complete tasks set by your child’s class teacher. Additionally to the activities provided, please use this time to turn a negative into a positive and take part in exciting activities such as arts and crafts, cooking, board games, gardening, as well as having time with no devices to just sit and talk. Let’s make this a memorable time for you and your children for the right reasons.

In regards to attendance, if you or a family member have any symptoms of the virus, please follow the Public Health Wales guidance and contact NHS on 111 if your symptoms continue to worsen after 7 days. Thank you to those who have informed us of the reason for their child/ren’s absence. If you haven’t as of yet, please contact the school to ensure we know the reason for absence.

I wish you and your family good health and encourage you all to stay safe during this time.

Best wishes,

Stephen Thomas
